Say “Alaka‘i” and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser: Yes or no?
I received an invitation from the new Honolulu Star Advertiser debuting June 8th to continue writing Say “Alaka‘i” for them, as they become the only paper in Honolulu’s newly one-newspaper town. This quote streamed by as I was thinking about it (for I’d assumed the blog would end), and it really captures the best reason to say yes.
What good is your writing if it is yet unseen? It’s value is only appreciated when eyes land upon it. Therefore, share!

They say the blog has been well received and heavily trafficked, and in all honesty that was a surprise to me. It’s one of those situations where you write hoping for the best from the silent reader, for there’s little to no feedback loop.
The business model remains broken, I think (similar to this) but who knows? There hasn’t been enough communication of their plans to know or project without large doses of guessing. Thus early indications are that the blogging team will still be thought of as outsiders (and really not a team at all), but I hadn’t started writing the blog to be part of another organization in the first place; it’s always been an advertising gig of sorts, done to keep sharing the messages of Managing with Aloha within “my local.” So in that regard, nothing has changed.
And there’s the question: Do I want change, or will I remain content without it?
I write in other places, and frankly love them so much more… readers respond more, and I can influence the business model. The question is about having the desire to serve a tribe you often wonder if you really have at all.
