Collaboration and The Super Committee – Seja Min Blog
Elizabeth Seja Min offers some positive encouragement to the “Super Committee” of our U.S. Congress:
First, collaboration to solve wicked problems is a tough go. That’s where the element of aspiration comes in – the reach for greater meaning and inspiration. Aspiration plays a role in helping people stay a difficult collaborative course; plus, it engages support and participation from a greater community, essential to collaboratively-made change taking hold. “Deficit Reduction” is limited in the aspiration department. Can the name be changed? How about: “Joint Select Committee on Building Our Collective Future.”
Now, about “compromise” as a means of operating — again, it’s quite limited for collaborating on a wicked problem. There are many ways to go, but here’s three time-and-struggle-tested concepts to orient the work… Lokahi, Ujamaa, and Ohu
